Laura Bradford, is a holistic esthetician and owner of Salis Skincare and Spa and has created a line of natural skin care products. They are truly natural products, and are so safe you could even eat them (though we don’t recommend you do). Her facial wash can be used safely on a daily basis and clears away bad bacteria, while keeping the good bacteria on you skin. Just like we want to have healthy gut flora, we also want to have healthy flora on our skin. She also talked about the benefits of eating healthy, nutrient dense foods and staying away from processed, sugary, foods as this can cause skin problems and also wrinkles.
We talked moisturizers and how they often contain things that are harmful to our bodies. Remember our skin is the largest organ of our bodies and everything we put on it goes into our blood stream. It’s wise to consider everything you put on your skin and ask yourself this question: If I wouldn’t eat this, should I be putting it on my skin? A great way to moisturize your skin is to use oil. Jojoba (pronounced hohoba), sweet almond, avocado, or olive oil are excellent options. Try them and see your skin improve!
Some great questions came up in the meeting and Laura’s answers are below.
Q. What is a good toner to use?
A. Bragg’s Raw Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with water (1:2 ratio). This is a wonderful ph balancer for the skin, and will also help to give you skin an even tone and get rid of dark spots. Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Juice also works great too (this product must be refrigerated though).
Q. What else can be used to get rid of sun spots?
A. Food grade (3 percent) hydrogen peroxide (not the kind from the grocery store. Food grade hydrogen peroxide can be purchased at health food stores or online). This can be applied directly to the affected spots. Improving your diet and protein absorption, by eating gut healing foods can keep results long term.
Q. I have oily skin, what should I use?
A. This sounds strange, but using one of the oils we talked about will help you eliminate oily skin. When a person’s skin is oily, their skin is actually dehydrated and it sends a signal to their body to produce lots and lots of oils to rehydrate it. By giving your skin what it needs–oil– you will actually decrease the oiliness of your skin. Do it for two weeks and you will see a dramatic change.
